We had a blast hosting the first annual 605 Summer Classic. We had over 1700 attendees at 8th & Railroad and the vibe was phenomenal. The weather was perfect and the Dollz beat the No Coast Derby Girls!

Mayor Mike Huether gave a great speech to the crowd and blew the first whistle of the bout. When his official duties were over the mayor and his wife hung out and watched all of the amazing bands playing and ended up leaving late in the evening with a We All Have Hooks for Hands album.

A big thanks to all of the bands Soulcrate Music, The Kickback, We All Have Hooks for Hands, Flame On Entertainment, Nick Rallis Band, Avian Sunrise, A Ghostwood Calm, and Welcome to the Cinema - everyone killed it. A giant thanks to Sanford Health and Wells Fargo – this event would not have been as great without their support. Also thank you to Club David for supporting us as well, along with throwing an after party that had people lining up at the door! The Medemas at Funky Fresh were amazing sponsors as well, creating our sweet website, our logo, and the poster you saw everywhere. Jayson Weihs from The Collective Efforts Union kept everything in check on stage and really helped us organize everything and run the stage. Friday July 2nd, from 7-10 p.m. in the 8th & Railroad Center’s Commons area directly behind the galleries, there will be a one-night only unveiling of a brand new collection of over 30 paintings and drawings by local artist and recent recipient of the 2010 Washington Pavilion Arts Night “People’s Choice” Award, Shaine Schroeder.

No stranger to the burgeoning underground art scene, Schroeder has been preparing for this semi-solo show for some time, side by side with sister and photographer/painter Shelbi, who will be displaying her collected works, both painting and photography as well.

Accompanied by the musical stylings of DJ FooLProoF, the event promises to be a unique experience.

There will be food and refreshments available to the public, and a series of new prints by both artists will be available for purchase.

Weather permitting, the garage door to the Commons will be open the duration of the show. Weather not permitting- watch for the signs out back. Parking is available in front, but is recommended for the rear as the First Friday Block Party will be happening in front on the same evening.

Who wouldn’t want to spend an evening with Henry Rollins? Though his eyes look like he’s stealing your soul, check the punk royalty out at the Brandon Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Tickets in advance are $25 and are now available on Ticketmaster.com.

MODEST MOUSE

July 12

Modest Mouse is coming to Sioux Falls once again. If you like indie-rock (they are known for hits like “Float On”), check them out at 8 p.m. at the Ramkota Exhibit Hall. Tickets will be available this Friday at Last Stop CD Shop, by phone at 800-514-3849, or at sites like the Collective Efforts Union and Jade Presents. Tickets run $33 smack-a-roos.

Check out this breathtaking photo kudos to Candace Ann Photography for our May fashion shoot (the trees are real). The shoot has an Alice in Wonderland theme and Candace definitely takes the reader to Wonderland.

Thanks to our fashion intern Leonia Tran who helped pick out the clothes from AMaVo Boutique and modeled. It was a long shoot and was well worth it. Pick up the May issue to see how you can turn your day outfit into night!
